GOIC successfully paved the way towards the implementation of the Regional SPX network a decade ago.

After the success of 1st steering committee meeting held in Oct 2013, at Doha, we have witness several mile stones in regional SPX network, it is a great time to share all of those successes and plans for future activities to strengthen the SPX network. Based on the demand, we propose to organize 2nd SPX steering committee meeting on 27th October 2015, at Public Authority for Industry, Kuwait (SPX center).

SPX projects which were developed with the assistance of UNIDO focused on, for instance, upgrading and modernizing of productive capacities necessary to propel industrial development; standards and quality subcontractor development to enhance the accessibility of local and regional products in the international market; and investment promotion activities including support to the establishment of SPX centers.

In order to move the SPX center forward, it will be essential to create but also leverage new partnerships and cooperation with various stakeholders, including, the host,  Concerned Ministries and of course with support of major Industries in the respective countries.

This steering committee meeting  is not only timely but also provides an opportunity for active participation in setting goals that are important for SME development in the region, which is supposed to result into the formulation of Sustainable SPX Development Goals. It is a favorable time to discuss Achievements, Future Plans and Problems of mutual interest with delegates from member countries of the Region.

It is gratifying to note that the agenda of the steering committee meeting covers a wide range of very interesting points relating to the; 

        1.        Emerging Issues of SPX program;

        2.        Understand Strength and Weakness;

        3.        Holistic approach to meet the SPX objectives;

        4.        Suggestion and Advice to improve the SPX program; 

        5.        Review  the status of all SPX centers;

        6.        Future activities for each center;   

        7.        New cooperation  between SPX center, UNIDO & GOIC;

        8.        Strengthening and capacity building of SPX center ;

        9.        UNIDO new tools and programs;

        10.      New SPX centers.

Although the extent of SPX promotional programs in the region is limited, the SPX centers in the region are active and by no means comparable in importance to that in most member countries of the Region, yet where they are cropped, but they are one among the regional and Global SPX network.

During this Steering Committee Meeting these issues will be discussed in detail based on the presentations that will be made on this topic by various stakeholders, I would like to especially draw your attention to the need to focus on the key recommendations we can draw from the various presentations to facilitate their inclusion within the post development agenda. It is of particular importance that we work towards the inclusion of specific industrial development goals and targets into this agenda.

GOIC will continue to synergize the efforts of GCC development plan and to promote the change that is needed, be it in SME development matters,  encourage localization, Trade Capacity Building or Supplier development programs.
